The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
by Christy Kienast, The Quill
A four story building in Hancock County is up for tax sale in La Harpe.
There are only two other four story buildings in Hancock County, the Brewery in Warsaw and the new Mormon Temple in Nauvoo.
The building in La Harpe has gone downhill over the years and previous owner, Robert Cook of Carthage said, "I tried to fix it up, but as I did someone moved out or tore it up."
So, Cook decided to let it go back for tax sale. He didn't have the money to fix it up and had no tenants at the time.
The building is large and there could be four great store fronts on the main floor, as well as lots of apartments, and there is a ball room on the top floor.
Bids for the building are starting out at $645.00.
Hopefully, someone will buy it and will fix it back to beauty or tear it down. The building is really unique.
Mr. Cook said he would have loved to have seen it fixed up. He has had great success over the years with fixing up other buildings. This one just never worked out for him.
Anyone interested in the building, located on Center Street in La Harpe, right across from the park, can go on the website and place their bid.
