District Gives Service Awards

La Harpe: President Wear presented an award in appreciation to Dan Horton for distinguished service on the boards of education as a member from 2001-05 and as president from 2005-07 for La Harpe CUSD #335; and also as president from 2006-09 and vice president from 2009-11 of La Harpe CSD #347. Wear then presented an award in appreciation to Deanna Stambaugh for distinguished service as a member from 2006-11 of the Board of Education of La Harpe CSD #347.

Horton recalled many challenges the boards have come through over the past years and he counts it a privilege to have been a part of bringing quality administrators on during his period on the board.

Stambaugh also acknowledged the honor it has been for her to serve the district. Photos were taken and all who were present showed their appreciation.

The awards were given during the La Harpe Community School District's regular board meeting held Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in the district library.

School District Superintendent Jo Campbell reported that $400,000 received from 2011 from the Johnson Estate was disbursed to the following accounts: $200,000 to education fund 10; $100,000 to building fund 20; $60,000 to debt services fund 30; and $40,000 to transportation fund 40.

Principal McKeown reported on the culmination of junior high volleyball and the start of the 5th-8th track season, a title I Parent Night, completion of ISAT testing, the annual CHIP program sponsored by the Masonic Lodge, a presentation by Illini West cheer, flag, and dance teams, recent safety drills, and "Spring Fever Reliever Week".

McKeown listed the following students of the month: K-Jaylee Willdrick, 1st-Hope Rathjen, 2nd-Bradee Finley, 3rd-Logan Little, 4th-Destiny Shumaker and Dylan M Maloney, 5th-Dalton Melvin, 6th-Jenna Banks and Aden Trout, 7th-Jessica Johnson and Chance Dennis, 8th-Tori Crim and Colton Smith.

The board discussed facilities, athletic coop, policy, transportation, and technology.

The board approved bids related to the summer renovation of the 1958 portion of the main building for asbestos abatement, masonry work, roofing, electrical work, fire protection, and asbestos abatement of the 1928 building.

The board also approved the FY 2011 Transportation Agreement with IWHS District #307, and the Athletic Coop Agreement with Dallas ESD #327, discussed next year's school calendar, moved 8th grade graduation up to May 15 at 2:00 p.m. and authorized the deletion of closed session recordings made at least 18 months prior to the current meeting according to district policy.

Regularly scheduled LCSD# 347 board meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month in the school library at 7:00 p.m.
