Need Insurance If You Maintain Your Own Plots

The La Harpe City Council met for their regular meeting April 11, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.

Linda Johnson was present to explain that some individuals maintain there own cemetery plots, therefore, they don't always remove their ornaments for cemetery clean up.

The council is concerned that such individuals might need to carry insurance in case of an accidental mishap to a surrounding head stone or ornamentation.

These individuals could be held responsible for damage to surrounding property.

Eric Moe was present to discuss the sewer/water main replacement system. The city has been denied twice for grant money.

The community profile has been updated, and is good for another year.

Slow moving vehicles, such as, mini trucks have been an issue, but Senator Sullivan passed a law that such vehicles are permitted on side streets as long as they comply with the regulations set for them.

It was brought to the council's attention of bike riders on the sidewalk in the main street business blocks. It is in the Ordinance that "No person shall operate any bicycle upon the sidewalk either on the north or south side of Main Street between the west line of Second Street and the east line of A Street. This Ordinance was passed 9-10-57.

City wide clean-up is Friday, May 20th.

Tim Graves asked the council to help with replacing 72 feet of sidewalk in front of his property at 206 North 2nd Street. The council maintains they will pay for cement after they see an estimate if Graves does the labor.
