Annawan, Il 9/24/2010 - Special Teams would prove to be the Heat's Achilles Heel Friday night as the Annawan Wethersfield Titans stripped the ball on the opening kickoff and set the tone for the match with the West Central Heat for the Titan's Homecoming victory.
The Heat answered the Titans opening drive by marching the ball down the field with a Toby Krow touchdown and Seth Mize extra point to tie the score 7-7.
The Titans used the same speed that they showed in the opening kickoff to pass for another touchdown and the score went to 13-7 as they were unable to make the extra point. A high snap on the Heat's next possession led to a safety and the Titans were able to finish the first quarter up 15-7.
The Heat came back to start the second quarter with Toby Krow and Dylan Bell driving for a couple of first downs and then Toby Krow driving the bus home for a TD and Dylan Bell making the extra point to tie the score at 15-15.
The tie would be very short-lived as the Titan's Weston Heinz would immediately shoot off for the end zone again with a 76 yard dash for another Titan touchdown making the score 22-15. A blocked punt would set the Titans up to score one more time before halftime making the score 28-15 at the half.
Once again the Heat were unable to get anything going in the third quarter. The Titans took the opening kickoff of the second half and drove to the end zone scoring on another DeJaeger and Bumphrey touchdown pass to make the score 35-15.
That combination would prove too much for the Heat defense as they successfully repeated that attack three times. The Heat went 4 and out and on the ensuing drive were unable to stop the Titans who scored again sending their center up the middle to make the score 42-15.
Riley Cavanaugh made an interception after the Heat again turned the ball over on downs and the Heat second string moved the ball down to the one yard line and fumbled to end the third quarter.
The Titans used the fumble recovery to start the fourth quarter but were unable to score. Jessie Pullen marched down the field with a couple of big first downs and again the Heat came up short just shy of the end zone. However a fumble recovery would set up a last minute touchdown by Jessie Pullen to end the game Titans 42, WC Heat 23.
The Heat JV lost to the Annawan Wethersfield Titans Monday night Sept 27th in Biggsville. it was a very close game with similarities to the varsity game as the Titans were first on the scoreboard after marching down the field with consecutive first downs to put the score 6-0.
The first quarter ended without any other points on the board. In the second quarter the Titans would go up 13-0 which would be the score going into halftime.
In the second half the Heat were able to score with a Goff to Keeler touchdown pass making it 13-6. Annawan would answer back with a kick off return for 75 yards making it 19-6.
The heat fired back with Chip Worley motoring down the field with a 70 yard fumble recovery making it 19-12. The Titans would continue to move the ball on the West Central Heat running up the middle for another touchdown making it 25-12.
Trey Goff rushed for the last score of the game making it 25-18, but that was as close as the Heat JV could come Monday night, making them 3-1 for the season.
