Biggsville, Il 9/3/2010 - The West Central Heat played their home opener for the 2010 season against The River Valley Falcons and moved to 2-0 for the season. River Valley came to Biggsville hoping to break their forty game losing streak. But in the end they weren't able to put any points on the board against the Heat.
After a botched onside kick by the Falcons to open the game, the Heat jumped out of the gate with a fifty three yard touchdown run by quarterback Dylan Bell but were unable to make the point after putting them up 6-0.
On their next drive Bell hit Brandon Brent for a fifty yard touchdown pass and put the Heat up 12-0. The ensuing kickoff was dropped and left the Falcons fighting for position on their own 1 yard line.
Dustin Hawk had a huge tackle that brought the ball back to the one yard line. Toby Krow had a 57 yard drive that helped put the Heat into scoring position again, and Shane Cavanaugh used the opportunity to score with Dylan Bell scrambling in for the extra point, bringing the score to 28-0.
The Heat would get a first down with 1:34 left on a 30 yard run by Dylan Bell. A bad snap foiled the Heat's 3 point conversion attempt which led into halftime. For the second week in a row, the Heat found themselves in the lead 28-0 at halftime.
Unlike the week before, the Heat were unable to score any points the entire third quarter but fortunately neither did the Falcons.
Shane Cavanaugh had a big interception in the third quarter and the Heat defense was able to stop the Falcons biggest drive with 1:21 left in the third quarter. The Heat regained their forward momentum with a fake punt snapped to Riley Cavanaugh who took off for 30 yards up the side.
Trey Goff passed to Brandon Brent for the final ten yard passing score bringing the final score 36-0.
The Heat had 353 yards overall, 298 on the ground.
Asked about the game Coach Kerfoot said, "The boys have worked hard, stayed focused and it has resulted in a 2-0 start. We have a great opportunity to get a big win Friday vs. a tough Mercer County Team."
The West Central Heat will host their second home game against Aledo (Mercer County) on Friday, 9/10/10.
Come out and support the Heat as they bring football excitement to Biggsville.
