The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education of Illini West HSD #307 was held on Wednesday, August 25, 2010.
In personnel matters, the resignation of Tyler Walker as an Assistant Football Coach was accepted. The following extra-curricular positions were approved: Freshmen Class Sponsors - Kristen Cook and Breanna Anderson; FFA Volunteer Sponsor - Vicki Hardy; and Assistant Football coach - Rusty Willey.
Fundraising events were approved including a "Powder Puff" football game sponsored by the Student Council as part of the Homecoming activities to be held on Thursday, September 9th, as well as the annual FFA fruit sales during November. An FBLA trip to St. Louis on September 18th to watch a Cardinals ball game, as well as tour the business office was approved.
The certified staff contract between the district and the Illini West High School Education Association was approved. The contract runs from 2010 through 2013. A lease agreement was entered into with the West Central Illinois Special Education Cooperative for their use of two classrooms in the west portables at the high school.
The 2010-2011 IWHS Employee Handbook was approved. Janet Vass was appointed to represent Illini West on the IASB Divisional Government Board.
The calendar for the April 5, 2011 consolidated elections was reviewed, with Ann Menschel appointed as the Illini West Election Official. The terms of five members of the IWHS School Board will expire including Tracey Anders (representing La Harpe), Tom Holtsclaw (representing Carthage), Janet Vass (representing Dallas City), Jerry Green (representative-at-large), and Mark Burling (appointed to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Eric Bryan, representing Carthage). The first day to begin circulating nominating petitions for these school board positions is September 21st. Petitions will be available at the District Office at 96 S. Madison in Carthage.
