Gulfport Shooting

by db Conard, The Quill

According to Henderson County States Attorney Ray Cavanaugh, authorities have good leads on the one who shot a middle aged Burlington, Iowa man outside Sam's Saloon in Gulfport. State Police are working on tying up loose ends with the victim after an interview this Tuesday, and hopefully a quick arrest will be made of the "dummy with a gun!"

For more than a week now, the man who was shot last week while sitting in his car in Sam's Saloon parking lot in Gulfport, has been laying in a Great River Medical Center hospital bed in critical condition with a bullet lodged in the vertebrae of his neck.

Around 4:30 in the morning was evidently not the right time and place to "make his day" a good one. Perhaps we could speculate and say he had crossed the river to do a good deed, or honest business, but he evidently bumped into someone who shouldn't have a gun for the good of us all.

The State Police along with local authorities seem to have the situation well in hand, and by next week, we will hopefully be able to report a positive I.D. on the suspect.
