I enjoyed stopping by West Central high school recently watching the football players hard at work preparing for their season.

I'm reminded of the string of activities that are just beginning for parents and teachers. It's nice to get a glimpse into our schools when we are adults and recall how much those activities were a major part of our lives.

It's still true that it takes a community to raise a kid and I hope each of us can take the time to support, help or attend some of the school functions.

Illini West Chargers Class 3A (ranked #1) football fans will want to mark Friday, September 4th on their calendars to attend the first home football game against Bushnell-Prairie/Avon.

They will be re-dedicating the Latherow football bleachers that have been moved from La Harpe to Carthage.

West Central Heat Class 2A (ranked #36) at present will face United-Alexis at home this Friday - 7 p.m. with their next two games away with Elmwood Sept. 11 and Annawan, Sept. 18.

WC Girls Volleyball play Prinvceville Wednesday, Sept. 2nd at Biggsville: 6 p.m. Jr. Varsity 7 p.m. Varsity.

Elementary and Middle Schools are also busy with Jr. High baseball and football.

Although the sports calendars are full, I recall them as the icing on the cake at school.

"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy," so let's take time off from work and attend a game.
