At the Lincoln Monument dedication in Oquawka, the Honorable Judge Stephen Evans said in his remarks that the Henderson County Historical Society promoted Heritage Trails for over 30 years to keep our county history active for the public. In the crowd for the dedication was long time President John Allaman and Current President William Allaman and several other members of the society, still supporting that cause.
John Allaman shared a picture postcard that he had in hand of what Oquawka Main Street use to be. Iin the picture at left, two women are standing on the walk in front of the bank where Lincoln was reported as speaking to over 1500 who had gathered to listen to his two hour speech.
