Special Meeting of the West Central Board of Education

At the Thursday, June 4, 2009 special meeting of the West Central Community Unit School District #235 Board of Education the following items took place:

Board President Brent called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. All board members were present at roll call. The meeting was held in the Elementary Cafeteria.

The board entered closed session to discuss matters pertaining to personnel and the lease, purchase or sale of real property at approximately 7:04 p.m.

The board exited closed session at 8:21 p.m. and took the following action:

The highlight of this document is that the board agreed to pay the remaining $500 of the $2500 cost for staff members to participate in that program.

Those staff members who fail to complete the required course work during the 2009-10 school year will be required to re-pay the board ($250) of that $500 fee.

A copy of the approved memo of understanding will be emailed to the 18 teachers who have been accepted into this program.

The board's contribution to the cost of this program will be submitted to ISBE in time to meet the June 15, 2009 deadline.

The rest of the salary increases for exempt staff will be slightly less than that 3.5%.

The board was reminded that their next meeting date is Wednesday, June 17, 2009. This meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and be held in the elementary cafeteria.

Just prior to adjourning, the board heard some comments from WCHS student, Sam Sanning, regarding the homeroom that will be implemented in the WCHS during the 2009-10 school year and the proposed policy change regarding sexting and cell phone usage.

Following Mr. Sanning's comments, the board thanked him for taking the time to share his thoughts with the board and encouraged him to visit with Mr. Geiser for additional information on these two issues.

There being no other business to come before the board, the board adjourned the special meeting at approximately 8:50 p.m.
