The La Harpe Community School District #347 Board of Education held their regular January 2009 meeting on Tuesday night, the 20th in the school district library.
All Board members were in attendance which included Dan Horton, Cindy Wear, Mark Irish, Ricky Johnson, Rex Huston, and Deanna Stambaugh. Also present were Supt. Jo Campbell, Secretary Jeanne Clayton, and visitors Arlynn Hitz and Joyce Crim.
Principal McKeown reported news of 5/6 boys' basketball and 5/6 girls' volleyball activities, recent 7/8 girls' volleyball matches, and 7/8 boys' basketball team involvement in the Hancock County Tournament.
The La Harpe student council planned the annual Wacky Olympics which were held January 23rd, and also sponsored a "Winter Wonderland" classroom door decorating contest.
Prizes for the contest were: for 1st place, an "I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream Ice Cream Party; for 2nd place, a "Chillin Out with Fudgesciles Party"; and for 3rd place, a "Brain Freeze Popsicles Party".
Mrs. McKeown also spoke of the technology training La Harpe School teachers have been receiving this year which will help them daily in the classrooms.
The presidential inauguration events were watched by La Harpe students thanks to Mark Irish who assisted in the audio-visual set up on the gymnasium.
In other business, the board approved a resolution for purchase of the property located at 309 West Archer Street, approved the renewal a general junior high athletic cooperative agreement with Dallas City ESD #327 through 2011, and approved a wavier which would allow the future use of full day school improvement days if deemed necessary.
The board also approved a state-mandated Response to Intervention plan, received with regrets the resignation submitted by Marjorie Dowd, and accepted the application for sub teacher aide submitted by Ashley Williams.
