About 60 well-wishers showed up at West Central Thursday night as Miriam Rutzen shared with community friends and supporters her summer experiences of what she called "the trip of a lifetime" before heading out East to pursue her college education at Harvard.
Miriam traveled to Australia and Hawaii this summer to play basketball with the Australia DownUnder Gold Coast Sports program.
Area businesses and individuals provided her with financial support for this adventure, and Thursday evening Miriam shared with those who could attend, her observations about that experience as well as playing basketball with slightly different rules and standards.
Miriam also kept a blog of her trip. It can be accessed on the web at http://miriamrutzen.blogspot.com/ from any browser. Miriam left for Harvard Saturday, and will be at "Wigglesworth" with five other girls from Romania, California, Massachusetts, Illinois, and Florida.
