The La Harpe School Board held a regular meeting Tuesday night, April 21st in the school district library.
Board members in attendance were Dan Horton, Cindy Wear, Mark Irish, Ricky Johnson, Rex Huston, Pam Campbell, and Deanna Stambaugh.
Also present were Supt. Jo Campbell, Secretary Jeanne Clayton, and visitors Darren Spangler, Ryan Kitch and Carrie Finch.
Principal McKeown reported that 5th-8th grade track is well under way; 8th graders enjoyed presentations by a group of international students brought to La Harpe School by WIU's Kevin Timler; and La Harpe students performed well at the recent Solo and Ensemble Contest hosted by West Central.
La Harpe School raised a total of $1,087.11 at the recent American Red Cross Penny Drive; the student council sponsored an Easter Egg Hunt; 8th grade students completed a pre-ACT test sponsored by Illini West; and 4th graders attended the annual Body Walk in Carthage.
McKeown updated the board on classroom placement and the minor changes needed in a few areas to allow all the remaining classes to leave the 1928 building and move into the newer buildings for the coming school year.
In other business, the board scheduled a special meeting on Monday, April 27th for the purpose of seating new members and organizing the new board.
The board also approved Stacy Yard's application to substitute for support staff; renewed the district's IESA (Illinois Elementary School Association) membership; authorized the superintendent to update the Johnson Building shop area, weight rooms, and former band shack to accommodate classes this fall, and approved the financial report and payment of bills.
The joint La Harpe-Dallas City athletic coop committee had met and members brought to the board some changes to the Athletic Coop Agreement which will be approved in May.
Repairs will be made to the exterior west wall of the junior high building, and the teacher contract negotiation team will soon meet.
Superintendent Campbell is speaking with multiple state government offices to ensure La Harpe District is in place should state funding become available for school building construction.
Regularly scheduled LCSD #347 board meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month in the school library at 7:00 p.m.
