After congratulating the La Harpe volleyball 7th grade team on their State Championship & 8th grade team on their 2nd in the State, the board honored one of their own, Ricky Johnson, trustee and past president after giving ten years of his time to better education in La Harpe.
The La Harpe School Board held a regular meeting Wednesday night, February 25th in the school district library. The meeting had been rescheduled due to the 7th and 8th grade state volleyball games.
Board members in attendance were Dan Horton, Cindy Wear, Mark Irish, Ricky Johnson, Rex Huston, Pam Campbell, and Deanna Stambaugh. Also present were Supt. Jo Campbell, Jeanne Clayton, and visitors Joyce Crim and Darren Spangler.
Principal McKeown reported the completion of ISAT testing and an "ISAT Ticket Party" to celebrate the students' hard work.
The school raised a grand total of $5,437.30 at the annual Jump Rope for Heart event.
McKeown extended a big "thank you" to Dessa Rodeffer, The Quill, and all the sponsors for bringing Curly "Boo" Johnson to La Harpe School and thanks to La Harpe Telephone Company for sponsoring the a much enjoyed production of "Pipeline Reloaded" performed by the WIU Touring Theater who juggled, mimed, and made music using a machine built of pvc pipes.
Former NFL player and Sportsworld spokesman Ken Johnson signed autographs and inspired an attentive audience of students to persevere and work hard in school and eighty-eight La Harpe students were identified by the Illinois Child Identification Program with the help of the local Masonic Lodge.
La Harpe School hosted the annual FFA Banquet which was a great success; teachers and support staff underwent annual training for dealing with diabetes; and the district held a Book Fair with proceeds going toward books for the school library.
In other business, the board appointed Rex Huston and Pam Campbell to the athletic coop committee and Dan Horton, Deanna Stambaugh and Mark Irish to the contract negotiating team.
Darcie Palmer was approved as afternoon special education bus aide; Peggy Bundy, Jodelle Eddington, and Kyle Magee were approved for summer custodial work.
The board discussed moving classrooms out of the 1928 building, repairing the brick on the west wall of the addition; bus #9 was added to the list of those to be traded in, and the calendar for the school year 2010 was adopted.

Ricky Johnson was honored by President Dan Horton and the La Harpe School Board with a beautiful cherry wood clock plaque for distinguished service as President, Vice President and Member of the La Harpe School Boards from 1999 to 2009.
