It's All About The Kids

Since my last editorial about the parents of those participating in the La Harpe Summer Ball program was a bit of a downer, I thought it would be good to quickly convey some positive feelings toward the work being done there.

First of all, I think it's awesome that parents, as well as those in the community, that may or may not have a child or family member, participating in the Summer Ball program donating the time and effort to continue making the summer ball experience one of the best in the area.

The fields are always in great shape, and there is always a great turnout in support of all of the children playing in the games.

The thing I think that struck me the most, while I have helped out with the concession stand, was what Todd Porter said upon placing second in the Bronco League tournament to Astoria.

Mr. Porter opened the presentation of the trophies and medals by saying, "First of all, I want to thank all of you for showing up and supporting these boys. That's what it's all about. It's all about the kids and them having fun learning and getting better."

As I was trying to say before in the previous editorial on what had occurred in a negative fashion at a game earlier on this summer, it is all about the kids.

It's refreshing to know that there are so many class acts within our community like Todd Porter and everyone else that works so hard throughout the summer to ensure a great experience for the kids.

I really can't say an awful lot more about what I have noticed in being a part of the games as a helping hand.

It's extremely important that our community continues to band together for these types of events and have fun because that's what small towns are all about.

You've done an outstanding job of being an example to other small towns as they've come to watch games in our community on what it's like to have a caring community that sticks together through the best and worst of times.
