Meet your neighbor Joe Dion who is one of the guidance counselors for Illini West High School. He has been a guidance counselor for twenty-three years, the past two at Illini West and the remaining years at Carthage High School (CHS).
He, for twenty years, was the accounting and general business teacher at CHS. He also assisted in coaching the football team.
Dion was raised in Carthage and graduated from CHS in 1962. He attended Illinois State University (ISU) and graduated in 1966. His siblings all attended ISU as well.
He grew up with four brothers and one sister and is now married and has two children and six grandkids. He commented that he was very fortunate to have been raised in the hard-working, strong, Christian family he was raised in.
Dion is an avid golfer. In fact in 1974 he made a hole-in-one on two consecutive days. He is the treasurer for Carthage Golf Club and for his church, First Christian Church in Carthage. He acquired those jobs because of his love and attention to detail.
Dion is affiliated with Hancock Business Partners.
He is a big sports fan. One of the most memorable moments of his career as assistant coach was when CHS made it to the state championship game in 1984.
Two of the most satisfying achievements in Dion's life are his involvement in the school and the success of his marriage and family.
