By Susan Galbraith, Quill Staff

Meet Your Neighbor Betty Sterett of rural Biggsville. Betty is employed full time at the First State Bank of Biggsville as a teller/bookkeeper and receptionist.

She was born and raised in the Monmouth area and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1952.

Betty has taken a variety of classes both at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg and Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, Iowa.

She and her husband, Larry have been married for 55 years.

They have two daughters, Debra, who lives in Springfield and works for the State of Illinois, and Tamee (Dan) Renwick. Tamee works at the FHA office in Monmouth and Dan is the principal at Yorkwood Grade School.

They also have two sons, Bradley (Carolyn). Bradley is employed by Boeing in North Carolina and Carolyn is a wife and mother, and son, Brian (Nanci). Brian is employed by Weirs Fruit Farm and Nanci is employed at GE in Burlington, Iowa.

Betty and Larry have 7 grandchildren, Dustin, Emilee, Ben, Sara, Mary, Andy and Johanna.

She has one brother, Darrall Themanson and two sisters, Charlotte Marston and Martha Pople.

Her parents, John and Elsie Themanson are deceased, as well as two brothers and one sister.

She enjoys shopping, traveling and her grandchildren.

Her favorite memories were of their family vacations when they went camping with their tent to various states out west.

They used to take $100 and be gone for three weeks. She said, "I always took our food and we always had regular meals just as if we were home." I remember always taking my pressure cooker and other kitchen utensils to make the meal complete. Not hot dogs or marshmallows.
