The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
The Quill traveled with Chuck Neff, Henderson County Republican Central Committeeman Chair, of Stronghurst, to see former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson on the 2008 Presidental campaign trail in a town meeting stop in Burlington, Iowa. Neff enjoyed sharing the county's newspaper with Thompson, who is perhaps best known for his work on "Law & Order."
Much to Neff's disappointment, Thompson announced Tuesday through his Web site that he won't be seeking the Republican nomination for president.
"Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for president of the United States," he said in a statement. "I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. [My wife] Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people." Thompson's decision follows on the heels of Saturday's South Carolina Republican primary, in which he finished third.
