The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.

Moment In History

RAILROADING IN HENDERSON COUNTY: The Peoria and Oquawka Railroad was completed to Monmouth in 1855 and the Chicago & Quincy to Galesburg at that time too.

That company leased the Peoria & Oquawka line and completed the work to Burlington and commenced running their trains over the whole route.

In a short time they purchased the whole line and changed the name to the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. The portion of the road from Sagetown to Oquawka the company never completed.
