Illini West Board Meets

January 9, 2008

The first class to graduate from Illini West High School will make history at 3:00 p.m. on May 24, 2008. The weather forecast will mostly likely determine whether the graduation ceremony will be held.

A Parent Advisory Committee is being formed by the superintendent to review the student handbook, discipline procedures, Special Education polices and procedures, and Title I. The committee will also be used to provide feedback and input concerning issues relevant to the high school district.

French II, Weight Training, and College Review Mathematics were all approved as new courses to be offered next fall. A large plaque or banner will proudly display the names of Illini West scholars in the hallway of I.W. H. S.

Ten current seniors have been selected as Illinois State Scholars. Those students are Christina Bostrom, Amy Byers, Cassandra Folkerts, Mark Frakes, Katherine Gambrell, Mackenzie Ourth, Tori Rehahn, Stephanie Smiddy, Lauren Smith, and Alyssa Swanson.

The I.W. Board of Education approved hiring a part-time cooperative work student to assist Diane Pepple, district technology director. Also approved was the posting of assistant coaches for the spring sports season.

Mel Roth reported that the Vocational Agriculture Advisory Committee has set a date for its first meeting and hopes this group will guide the development of the new F.F.A. charter. The next regular board meeting will be Wednesday, February 13th at 7:00 p.m.
