The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
RAILROADS IN HENDERSON COUNTY: The first railroad enterprise involving Henderson County was a road called the Peoria & Oquawka, a project to build and equip a road from Peoria on the Illinois River to Oquawka.
In 1849 the General Assembly passed an act of incorporation with the cost of building the road including the rolling stock to be $6,000 to $10,000 per mile.
The County Commissioners ordered an election to vote on the proposition of the county subscribing $50,000 to the enterprise; it was voted down. (To be continued)
