West Hancock Lady Titans First In State

In their first year of a newly formed coop between Hamilton, Nauvoo-Colusa, and Warsaw, the Lady Titans put this county on the map by capturing the class 2A state championship this past week end.

In the semifinals last Friday night the Titans beat the perennial powerhouse Teutopolis by a 43-38 score.

Marley Hall led the Titans with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Emily Mast added 11 points.

Teutopolis led 27-22 at half. The Titans toughened up their defense while outscoring Teutopolis by a 21-11 edge in the second half.

For the championship game, the Lady Titans had to take on 2nd ranked Rochester Rockets. The Titans jumped out to a 9-2 lead, only to have the Rockets come back to with 1 after the 1st quarter 11-10.

The Rockets then jumped back to a 19-13 lead, but the Titans came back to trail at half by only 21-19.

After 3 quarters the Rockets still held a slim 27-26 lead.

After a Rocket 3 pointer, the Titans' Marley Hall scored 9 unanswered points to put the Titans up 35-30 with just 2 minutes left.

The Titans were then able to finish off the Rockets while converting 7 of 10 free throws.

The Lady Titans were led in scoring by Marley Hall with 23, Lindsay Buckert with 8, Cassie Weighold with 3, Emily Mast with 6, and Kerbee Korhler and Halie Schilson with 2 each.

Congratulations to this top Hancock County team.
