Meet Your Neighbor Barb Malcolm
Barb has been Program Technician at the Henderson County Farm Service Agency (FSA) for the last 26 1/2 years and is presently looking forward to her retirement the end of December 2008.
Barb said, "There have been many changes during the last 26 years since I have been employed at FSA. There are less farmers, more computers that handle the technical data, 6 CED's (County Executive Directors) since my employment, I am the only one left of the original staff, checks are now written in Kansas City instead of here, and there is just not the personal touch there once was."
She has been married to Jerry for 44 years. Jerry is a farmer in the Carman area and they have lived in the same farm home for 43 years. They recently built a new home, 1/4 mile down the road from their original one.
Barb and Jerry have two daughters, Brenda (Chris) Clements, who live in Burlington, Iowa. Brenda is employed at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, Iowa, and husband, Chris, is the City of Burlington Street Department Operations Manager. Their other daughter, Sherri (Arbry) Vancil, lives in Carman.
Sherri is a physical therapist at the Western Illinois Special Education Cooperative, and Arbry is manager of the Stronghurst Feed Mill.
She and Jerry have 6 grandchildren, Brooke (12), Tyler (11) Paige (7), Alec (7), Ross (5 in January), and Drake (9 months).
Her parents are Howard and Esther Johnson, both deceased.
Barb enjoys shopping with friends, especially traveling to the 4 Seasons in Iowa City, Iowa. She also loves reading and working outside in her flowers.
Upon her retirement she plans to spend time with her grandchildren, do volunteer work, and help Jerry finish their basement.
