Meet Your Neighbor

Meet your neighbor Lisa Taylor.

Lisa and her husband, Alan, live at rural Oquawka. They are managers of Slagel's Fresh Produce Market in Oquawka.

The owners of Slagel's is Doug, and his dad and mom, Betty and Jerry. They also help out at the market when needed. The market is open Monday through Sunday.

Slagel's Market was started over 28 years ago and has been known many years, in the area, for their delicious sweet corn.

Besides fresh produce Lisa relates that they also carry salad dressing, jams, jellies and crafts.

This time of year Lisa and her husband are very busy with customers from all over the county.

Lisa was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and raised in the Aledo area.

She graduated from Aledo High School in 1980 and from Black Hawk College in Rock Island in 1982 with a C.N.A. certification.

She and Dale have been married 5 years. Lisa has 3 stepchildren, Travis (Kayla), Brian, and Brett.

Judy Wright of Keithsburg is Lisa's mom and her dad, Jack, is deceased.

She has two brothers, Bill of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Larry (Melissa) of Aledo.

One of Lisa's hobbies is painting. She does tole painting on shovels, saw blades, milk cans, skillets and any other item one would bring to her to paint. She also enjoys doing floral work on baskets and birdhouses.

She loves to travel, shop, go antiquing and working in her flower gardens.

During her younger years her family vacationed each summer in Dacono, Colorado, where her uncle lived. While vacationing they did sightseeing at Estes Park and enjoyed the splendor of the Rocky Mountains.

When at home the family enjoyed fishing and a highlight of the summer was attending county and state fairs where they participated in various activities.
