I haven't heard of any rumors of the Chicago Bears working out a dance and song routine for promoting themselves in their trip to the Superbowl. I wish they would.
My kids still reminisce about the Bears "85 successful trip to the Superbowl, and the Rebels senior football players doing their version of the Superbowl Shuffle that fall for Homecoming pregame activities in the gym.
I did receive a press release saying that William "The Fridge" Perry of that "85 shuffling crew, was going to be at an autograph signing at the Mt. Prospect Costco Wholesale Club. The Fridge will be available for fans to purchase items to be personally hand signed with a portion of proceeds to benefit The Boys and Girls Club.
His appearance is this Saturday, January 27, between 3-5pm at the Mt Prospect Costco Club in the Chicago area.
People still love these guys. I'm sure Pastor Bruce Goettsche of La Harpe will recall "The Fridge's" roommate, Leslie Frazier. Frazier visited the La Harpe Eagles football team and his church to encourage them about making good choices. He wore his Superbowl ring for the guys to see, then told how he set goals early in life of what he would do and not do.
He lost the friendship of all the kids he hung with because he said "no" to smoking a joint when it was passed around. That was the choice they gave him.
His friends ended up in drugs and drinking as they fell away from their goals. Others with more talent than he, Frazier said, could have made it to the superbowl, if they would only have made good choices and stayed strong. Frazier didn't hear from those classmates again until he won the Superbowl. It was years later when they told him, they wish they could have been like him. I saw Frazier again several years later helping at an Illini quarterback camp.
He, like Fridge, are a good shuffling crew.
