Meet Your Neighbor Alleyne Shumate Alleyne was born in McDonough County and has lived all her life in Fountain Green. She attended Woodville Grade School and graduated from Fountain Green High School in 1931. Alleyne raised three children, Doyle and Don Whitten and Barbara Whitten McCord. For over 25 years, Alleyne was a cook for the Fountain Green Grade School. When she first started cooking she said, "the kids couldn't get enough of corn bread and beans." The all time favorite thing the kids loved to eat was homemade noodles. Over the years she has had many former students call or write requesting recipes. Alleyne keeps herself very busy enjoying working outdoors in her yard and garden. She is known for her homemade violet jelly. Her hobbies include reading, and crocheting. |
