Meet Your Neighbor Margie Walker, daughter of the late Jesse and Carl Hasten. Margie was born on July 18, 1926, at home, in Fountain Green Township, one of six children. She graduated from La Harpe High School in 1944. On August 23, 1947 she married her high school sweetheart Lee Walker. Margie and Lee raised five children, Ronnie Walker, Carlene Adams, Randy Walker, Rick Walker and Dixie Castlebury. She has 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Margie has worked at various places throughout her life. Before she married, she worked at Sheaffer Pen in Fort Madison, Iowa. After her marriage she did babysitting in her home for three years. She worked at the Lomax Canning Factory during the summer for a couple of years, and before retiring she worked at the Ordinance Plant in Burlington, Iowa. Margie moved to La Harpe in 2004 where she Ioves living because she can volunteer and be close to her family. Since living in La Harpe, Margie has made a lot of new friends. She volunteers at the Senior Center; the La Harpe Care Center; is an active member of the United Presbyterian Church of Fountain Green, Club 16, and the Senior Citizens. Her hobbies include crochet, cooking, reading, playing cards, and spending time with her family. |
