Meet Your Neighbor Shawn Whitaker

Shawn is the new English literature teacher, to 80 students, at the West Central North campus. In fact Shawn began his duties on October 1, 2007.

He lives in the country near Burnside, 8 miles north of Carthage.

Shawn was born in Fort Madison, Iowa, and raised in Hamilton/Hickory, North Carolina.

He graduated from Fred T. Foard High School in 1992; from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1996; and received his Master of Arts in Teaching at Western Illinois University, in Macomb, in 2007.

Shawn is an ordained minister who graduated with a degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, He also works for Tri State Young Life as an area director. The national office for Young Life is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He is married to Hannah, his wife of six years, who is a special education teacher at Hamilton High School.

His parents are Jerry and Carol Whitaker. Jerry is employed at a furniture factory in Hickory Hill and Carol is employed as a daycare early childhood educator.

Shawn has one brother Scott, and one sister, Chaille (husband Kraig), and one niece, Rebekah, who is four.

His hobbies include deer hunting, grading papers (!) his classes and his Young Life activities.

A memorable vacation for Shawn was when he and Hannah honeymooned in Mexico on the Riviera Maya.
