Driskell Named Principal

Illini West #307 Filling Positions

March 14th board meeting:

The announcement of head coaching positions was delayed until March 28, 2007 due to the unfinished interviews.

Once this process is completed the board decided to have the head coach from each sport, the interim athletic director and the principal interview and hire assistant coaches.

The board voted to offer Ray Driskell the position of Illini West High school principal for the 2007-2008 school year, subject to a satisfactory contract being agreed upon. Mr. Driskell is currently working as the Carthage High School principal.

There were sixteen applicants for the bookkeeping position; as a result Dr. Ford and Mr. Mauzy will begin interviews to finalize that position. Negotiations will soon begin to fill the part-time staff positions as well as employment of the school psychologist and the social worker.

The lease agreement with the Carthage Elementary District must be accomplished before decisions on most support staff can be made.

The board voted to hire BLDD Architects to begin the process of obtaining portable classrooms to meet the classroom needs of Illini West students.

The board also approved the revised coach's handbook and a school calendar that has been coordinated to match the three elementary districts.

All four schools will have the same holidays and all will be out of school if cancelled because of bad weather. Illini West was fortunate to receive over fifteen thousand dollars worth of free textbooks from the Illinois Textbook loan program.

Dr. Ford is investigating used textbooks to supply as many of the rest of the textbooks as possible.

A superintendent's committee was formed for the process of beginning policy review with a representative of the Illinois Association of School Boards.

The board reviewed and selected six designs for the Charger mascot.

All suggestions had been submitted by future Illini West students. Students in grades 4 through 11 will vote on their favorite mascot logo during the month of March.

The board agreed that continuing to use the Ag plot that had previously been utilized by the La Harpe F.F.A. was a golden opportunity. The possibility of hiring a transportation director/assistant principal was also discussed as a possible benefit in fulfilling Illini West's goal of becoming the best district in this area.
