Illini West

June 11th Board Meeting

The Illini West board finally settled upon a solution for the controversial issue of what to do with the existing trophies in the trophy cases from the former Carthage High School. Board members agreed to display Dallas City, Carthage, and La Harpe trophies that have been earned by current Illini West students.

As classes graduate the trophies will be returned to the perspective elementary districts to display in a manner that they deem appropriate.

Hopefully, this compromise will encourage the school pride that is necessary for Illini West to acquire new trophies and traditions of excellence by building a future together that is based upon consideration and respect. The board agreed that all current memorials should continue be displayed.

Other board action included hiring Bob Fleming and Dana Melton as assistant volleyball coaches.

Mike Mauzy, Illini West superintendent, also made a request to hire another full time custodian.

First Bankers' Trust will provide banking services to Illini West free of charge the first year.

Protocol for check authorization was also discussed. A special joint board meeting with Carthage Elementary district 317 will be held on June 21st at 7:00 p.m. at the Carthage Elementary administrative offices to discuss the new TIF district and district options for acquiring fair compensation for loss of tax revenue.

The board granted Royalties Clothing Store use of the Illini West Charger logo. Other items of discussion included the district budget, progress on bringing electrical and water to the new portable classrooms and the repainting of the Illini West gym to display school colors and mascot.

Progress is being made on the July 1st celebration to be held at the Illini West campus from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Board members will be serving up free hotdogs, soda and chips to community members in attendance.

There will be lots of fun for the little people and a talent show for entertainment. Illini West students can enjoy teen dance from 8:00 to 11:00 in the parking lot ending with fireworks provided by Jerry Markley.

The celebration should be the perfect opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new friends as we come together to form a new school family.

The next Illini West board meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on June 27th at 96 S. Madison on the West side of the Carthage square.
