La Harpe School District Hires Teachers

It was planned that equipment and supplies will be moved to Illini West High School on August 2nd with the rain date on August 6th.

Anyone interested in providing a trailer and/or helping with the moving process, should call the La Harpe Central office at 217-659-7739 or contact Don Little.

Two teachers were hired during the regular La Harpe Community School District #347 meeting July 17th.

School board members in attendance, in the school district library were Cindy Wear, Rex Huston, Mark Irish, Pam Campbell, and Deanna Stambaugh.

Also present were Jo Campbell, Lila McKeown, and Pat Deitrich.

The board approved the employment of Douglas Jones of Carthage as Junior High Math teacher and Tracy Link of Moline as Junior High Science teacher.

Nancy Hasten was approved as a substitute cook, teacher aide, and secretary.

The resignation of LaRae Roth as Junior High Language Arts teacher was accepted with regret.

In other business, due to potential cash flow situations, the board adopted a resolution authorizing the district to issue warrants, notes, bonds, or other obligations in accordance with ILCS 5/17-16 or 5/17-17, in order to defray the necessary expenses of the district in a timely manner.

The board also approved the purchase of Extended Liability Coverage for La Harpe Unit District #335 from Hinz Insurance Company, approved the appointment of Supt. Campbell as the authorized IMRF agent for school year 2008, voted to accept the policy manual draft as presented from IASB-PRESS, approved the 2007-08 faculty and student handbooks, and approved the Project SafeGuard intergovernmental agreement offered by Carl Sandburg College for school year 2008.

Principal Lila McKeown reported that the Handbook Committee met in June to go over the student handbook and recommend changes.

Most changes in the handbook were simply blending of the elementary and junior high handbooks from last year. She reviewed the handbook with the board and explained the changes that were made.
