Heat Lose In Overtime

West Central Heat high school boys lost a close one 56-52 to visiting Alwood in overtime on Friday night.

The Heat jumped out to a 14-7 1st quarter lead and also led 26-16 at halftime. But the 3rd quarter saw the Heat get outscored 18-8 to tie the game at 34-34. Each team scored 13 points in the 4th quarter.

With 2 seconds left Dalton Chandler hit a 2 pointer to tie the game. Alwood called a time out and got a shot off that hit the rim but didn't go in.

In the overtime Alwood got an early lead and hit 9 of 11 free throws to seal the win at 56-52.

For the Heat Dalton Chandler had 17 points, Dan Crum 10, Calvin Covert 9, Kyle Guegler 7, Brady Smith 4, John Livermore 3, and Brad Buss 2 points.

Alwood was led by Kerry Engle with 22, Nathan Parks with 12, Michael Bogguess 11, and Luke Brandt with 9 points.

In the JV game the Heat prevailed 38-35. Layton Houseman scored 6 points in the 1st quarter which ended 12-12. Dalton Johnson scored 5 of the 7 points for the Heat in the 2nd quarter. At halftime, Alwood led 20-19.

The JV Heat outscored Alwood in the 3rd quarter 11-5 to take a 30-25 lead. Drue Waterman came up big with 5 of these points.

The 4th quarter stayed close as the JV's held on for a 38-35 victory.

For the Heat, Dalton Johnson had 9, Layton Houseman 8, Justin Bewley, Drue Waterman and Robert Day all had 5 points, Jordan Jones 4, and Dakota Pullen 2 points.
