Meet your neighbor Leila Link of La Harpe, born and raised in Burlington, Iowa.
Leila graduated from Burlington High School in 1963, and graduated from Burlington Business College with a degree in Administrative Secretarial in 1964. She took a secretarial position at IRC in Burlington, Iowa.
On June 20, 1965, Leila married John Link and moved to La Harpe. John is the owner of John Link Construction and they are also part owners of La Harp X-tra Space which provide 50 storage units to the La Harpe Community.
John and Leila have two children, Joani Wilson, Lisa Howd, and son-in-law Jeff Howd. They have four grandchildren Travis Wilson, who attends Illini West, and Karisa Wilson who attends La Harpe Elementary, and Jo Ann Howd, a student at W.I.U., and Jacob Howd who also attends La Harpe Elementary.
After her first child was born Leila became a stay-at-home mom for several year and when her children went to school, Leila went back to work.
Leila was employed by Larry Housewright at Housewright Home until November 1982. In January of 1983, she was employed by First State Bank of La Harpe and took a position in the bookkeeping department, now Leila is First Vice-President of Retail Operation. This January she will celebrate her 25th anniversary at the bank.
Leila says, "La Harpe is a great place to live. Living in a small town brings people close together and they support each other. The best thing about living in La Harpe is my children and grandchildren are here!"
Leila and John like to travel when time permits. In recent years they have traveled to Hawaii, Florida, the Bahamas, Texas, Tennessee and California. They really enjoy the warmer climates.
Leila enjoys reading, quilting, attending her grandchildren's sporting events, and spending time with her family.
