Have you marked your calendar with the many events coming up the first couple of weeks in August? If not now is your chance to do so.

Start the month with a trip to the Fountain Green Ice Cream Social on August 1st. Not only can you get your fill of homemade ice-cream but a light meal as well. They always have a wonderful crowd and you are bound to run into someone you haven't seen in a while.

The following night is the 83rd Annual Fish Fry at the Terre Haute Methodist Church starting at 5 p.m. Don't worry if you are not a fish eater they also offer chicken along with many sides and desserts.

With the wonderful hot weather we are having these are both great ways to keep yourself out of a hot kitchen but still enjoy a wonderful meal.

Well if you are not into food, which who isn't, Saturday, August 4th is the 9th running of the Fred Gibb Car Show in La Harpe. It may be a little warm but that never stops the cars from rolling in.

Aside from all the Fred Gibb memorabilia and cars to see there are others that bring out their classic cars to show. If you are not into the classics there are also newer models as well as motorcycles. Don't forget to pick up your Fred Gibb Car Show T-shirt and in case you do get hungry while walking around there will be plenty of vendors to offer you something.

As if that wasn't enough activity to last us for awhile...The annual La Harpe Summerfest starts on August 8th and goes through the 11th. There is something for everyone.

Each night there will be entertainment on the main stage, rides for the kids, frog and turtle races, the parade on Saturday, and new this year will be the Scholarship Bicycle Ride.

Make sure to purchase your Summerfest button so that you are entered in the nightly drawing for prizes from the local businesses and once again there will be food.

I am sure that there is much more going on in the area, but these are just a few to put down on your calendar. Before we know it, it will be time for the kids to head back to school, the pool will close and summer will be over.

So get out and enjoy the festivities and fellowship with your community while the weather is nice.
