We are always told to plan ahead, and if that is the case, we better start now for Christmas.
It is hard to believe how fast summer has gone by, and I am wondering how many people had made plans for a vacation. If you didn't, it's probably not going to happen unless you plan a trip over Thanksgiving, Christmas, or the New Year's holidays.
Of course there's been the little problem with the higher gas prices. The crowds have been down at several local events and were reported lower at the Old Threshers in Mt. Pleasant, IA.
Maybe, if crowds are down, it's an excellent time for local folks. We can stick close to home and visit all those things that you may have over-looked.
Henderson County Heritage Trails, democrat and republican fish and chicken frys, school and sporting events, church gatherings, the Fort Madison, Iowa rodeo, La Harpe Lions annual breakfast are all on the calendar in our Quill area.
At the Raritan Opera house, an encore of "A Town Called Raritan" will be produced. Something easier yet, invite someone new along, it is sure to be a great time.
Of course, you can always get healthy while you travel and join members of the Burlington Bike Club on a weekly dinner ride. Last week a group of around 50 rode from Bickels Bicycle in West Burlington, Iowa to The Pink in Lomax to enjoy their all-you-can eat-chicken.
Some are talking about the antique appraiser that will be in Stronghurst at the fairgrounds during Heritage Trails.
Again, you must plan ahead to bring that rare piece you've been wondering about if you don't want to miss out.
