Enough Heat

This week has been so hot that flowers are wilting even if they are watered. People are not feeling their best due to the heat and humid weather and easy tasks seem impossible.

Monday afternoon the fire whistle blew around 5 p.m. and Shirley sighed, "Oh no! The firemen do not have to put on their heavy equipment and go to a fire in this heat. It was over 100 degrees outside.

But the siren kept sounding and several firemen raced by the Quill on their way to the MST Fire Department in Stronghurst.

In a few seconds a truck pulled out with several firemen. It looked as if it was in town so Shirley and I decided to see if these firemen would survive this heat.

Luckily, the fire was a false alarm at the Stronghurst United Methodist Church. For some reason, the alarm system went off when the minister turned on the air. The firemen checked everything out they could and since it was Shirley's church, she was more than a little concerned. She had to call back to the alarm system representatives to tell them everything was okay,

We are so impressed and thankful for our volunteer firemen. They have given so much to our community continually, no matter what.

We're hoping the heat turns down for the sake of all who work in it, and that we have a great weekend for giving cancer the boot at the Relay For Life.
