Comfort Elections

We do take for granted the "vote" in America, but it is always a comfort to know we have a say in things that affect us.

In Iraq, they were so excited to get a say on who would rule them last year.

I was surprised when several talked about the time women were not allowed to vote in America.

It seems hard to conceive but it was one of the issues that was of contention in Iraq. U.S. Ambassador Paul Bremer III said he had to make them understand that women would be of no use to the men if they could not read or write or be educated. Especially since so many of the women out-numbered the men due to the loss in wars over the years.

The vote can change so many things in our lives. And whether you made it to the polls or not, I am sure it brings great comfort to know that your neighbors went to the polls and saved the day.

It is hoped that La Harpe, Dallas City, and Carthage School Districts have the success that West Central has had in consolidation with their convergence.

Working on a new endeavor usually brings people closer, and in this instance, it will bring communities closer.

They won't miss the rivalry. There's too much to gain.
