Meet Your Raritan Neighbors Good Cookin'

by Dessa Rodeffer, Quill Publisher/Owner

I was lucky enough to be able to buy one of the very first Raritan Sesquicentennial Cookbooks that just arrived in January.

The Raritan community put together this fine book in order to help with costs of Raritan's 150th Year Celebration.

What is amazing to me, is the number of people and the number of recipes that are included inside this well made book... over 900 recipes and 342 pages. Also, many old-time photos of Raritan are inside.

Recipes include everything from Pickles to Play Dough. That is correct. There is a Miscellaneous section with not only Bread and Butter Pickles, but Bubbles, Scratch & Sniff Watercolors, Finger Paint, Cinnamon Ornaments, and even a Squishy Ball.

Besides wonderful appetizers, dips and beverages, you will find markers for Brownies/cakes/frosting, candies/cookies, deserts/pies, main dishes/meats & pasta, soups/salads, vegetables, and pages of "Substitutions", and a "Equivalent Food Chart", "Baking tips," and "Helpful Hints."

Whether you like ham balls, chicken casserole, or Mexican dishes, or something for your sweet-tooth, you will find it in the Raritan Sesquicentennial cookbook written by one of our neighbors. I especially like the history included in the book.

Recipe books are available at Raritan's businesses:

Wisslead Oil, Raritan State Bank, The Antiquity (Stronghurst), Abingdon Banking Center, or Citizens National Bank, Roseville.

My favorite thing is just knowing that all the recipes are from our neighbors in Raritan and beyond.
