The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
by Susan Galbraith, Quill Staff
Ron James started blacksmithing 15 years ago. His interest began when he started camping and while shopping for camping gear decided he could make his own.
His interest would take him from a hobby to doing something he loved and making items for others that are not just useful but decorative as well. He has a shop at his home in rural Oquawka where he does his trade.
He and his wife used to travel and he would demonstrate at historic reenactments.
He has a son, Darren who lives in Carbondale, and also has an interest in blacksmithing and designs items in his home shop.
Ron comes to Weir Fruit Farm every year and sets up his wares for folks to view as he fires the kiln and demonstrates things for folks to enjoy during Heritage Trail Days.
He also participated in the first annual Oquawka Garden Walk in July of this year. He designs camping equipment, different styles of hooks, candleholders, pot racks and many different kinds of iron ornaments.
Ron owns James Insurance located in downtown Oquawka.
