Sandy Lefler has been volunteering for the American Cancer Society since 1990. She served as Education Chair on the Henderson County Cancer Society Board and moved into Board Chairperson of the board for 13 years. The county then joined 9 other boards to become an American Cancer Society Regional Board. Lefler was chair of the first Henderson County Relay For Life in 2001, 2002, and 2003. She continues to serve on the Henderson County Relay For Life committee as Advocacy Chairperson. In December of 2005 Sandy was urged to apply for Ambassador to Celebration on the Hill in Washington D.C. for September 2006. An essay written on her association with the American Cancer Society gained her the position as an Ambassador for Celebration on t he Hill American Cancer Society Action Network. On Sept. 19-20, 2006 Sandy will attend a unique event that will show our country\'d5s lawmakers how the American Cancer Society is waging the fight against cancer in communities nationwide. 'I am humbled and excited to represent Henderson County in Washington, D.C.,' Lefler said. 'We hope to eliminate suffering and death due to cancer by 2015. Celebration on the Hill gives us the opportunity to meet that goal and our support of it visible to members of Congress.' Celebration on the Hill Ambassadors will come together as one voice to urge senators and representatives to support initiatives that will help the fight against cancer. 'We are reminded that those lost to cancer will not be forgotten and those who have cancer will be supported and that one day cancer will be eliminated,' Lefler said |
