The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
by Coach Will Bavery
State rated West Hancock, drawing from almost 600 students, just had too many horses for the Heat to handle.
Our team played valiantly, and we gave the Titans a pretty good game even though the outcome was never in doubt. We were able to put points on the board in the first half, something that most of the Titans opponents have not done. Brent Blender picked up the touchdown for the Heat on a two yard run.
The Heat mounted two drives in the second half, but a fumble and an incomplete pass stopped the scoring threats.
After the game we received many compliments from the West Hancock fans for the quality of play we had given in the ball game. While we don't like to lose, its good to know that we gave a game effort.
The Heat finished the year with a 3 and 6 record. The rebuilding process is painful, but for the Heat the worst should be over.
The Heat will return over 20 letterman next year, and the learning that has taken place over the last two years should show up in victories.
I appreciate everyone who helped with football the last two years, and the fans who supported them. With that I'm headed for the river.
