Heat Outscore Athens 50-30

by Coach Will Bavery

In a game that featured lots of offense and not much defense, the Heat picked up the victory. The Athens Warriors broke on top by scoring another first possession, but the Heat stormed back on a 2 yard run by John Livermore.

The Heat took the lead when Drue Waterman hit Adam Smith with a scoring pass. Cameron Hartman caught the conversion pass from Adam Smith.

Athens tied the game in the second quarter, but John Livermore put the Heat ahead to stay with a 4 yard touchdown. Adam Smith added the conversion on a run. Adam continued his big night by returning the opening kickoff of the second half back 80 yards for a touchdown. Heath Bundy picked up the two point conversion on a run.

The Heat continued to add points with Adam Smith getting his third touchdown on a 15 yard run. John Livermore picked up his second touchdown on a one yard run, and Robert Day added the final touchdown on a one yard run.

The Heat was playing without our lead running back, Andy Chockley, who is out with a foot injury. This is a situation that you never want to be in, but it was really pleasing to see John Livermore and Brent Blender step up and take over the role as the go to back.

John picked up 207 yards and Brent added 124. Adam Smith added 50 yards, and Heath Bundy returned to action with 31 yards. It was really nice having Heath back going.

I would also like to mention the play of Dakota Pullen. Dakota learned 30 minutes before game time that he would be starting at tackle for Brady Smith, who had hurt his hand trying to dunk a basketball in PE class.

Dakota played great and we picked up yardage consistently off the right side for the first time this year. On defense the Heat got some big plays from Cameron Hartman and Cody Lane.

This week the Heat close out the season at Warsaw where they will play West Hancock a school with around 600 students versus our 300. They are good, but they should be if they have a 4A enrollment.
