Stronghurst Trick Or Treat Night Set for 31st

By: Shirley Linder, Quill Editor

The Village of Stronghurst has set Tuesday, October 31, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. as Trick or Treat Night.

Board members, who met in regular session on October 2nd, hope residents will not burn leaves on that day for the safety of the children.

Angela Myers announced that city wide clean up day will be Friday, October 13th.

The cannon in the park is to be removed and stored in a village building for the winter. The cement base will be removed, which a new one to be constructed next spring.

The Stronghurst Booster Club is working with the board on this project and hopes to involve the whole community in fund raisers to finance this project.

Tony Anderson reported a bulletin board will be placed on the outside of city hall for announcements of meetings, etc.

Members agreed to leave the "no skateboard or roller blades" sign in the park for the time being.

Board members are looking into locating a spot to put a skateboard area and checking on insurance liability.

Angela Myers will be going to the next school board meeting to talk about an area.

Myers read a letter which she had drafted, for approval, to be given residents whose properties were in violation of the clean up ordinance. This would be given to residents instead of a letter being sent from the lawyer.

Members approved the letter and said they felt it would be less threatening and hopefully more productive if handled in this manner.

Tony Anderson reported that on Wednesday, October 11th, the employees would be flushing hydrants after 1:00 p.m. for several Wednesdays.

A report from the sheriff's department included:

The board signed a contract with McClure Engineering for repairing the water line from the well house to the water plant that goes under the highway. They will also look into repairing one of the wells or digging another one.

Present were: Tony Griepentrog, president pro tem; Juanita Jarvis, Angela Myers, Lawrence Neff, Cory Fox, and David Vancil; Clerk Lori Russell; Treasurer Lou Ann Nortrup; Deputy Steve Henshaw;

Employees, Tony Anderson and Scott Ford; Guests Eric Moe of McClure Engineering and Bob Hamilton. President Eric Chockley was absent.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, November 6, 2006 at 7:00 p.m.
