The West Prairie-La Harpe Cyclones traveled to Havana last Friday night and could not overcome their own mistakes in falling to an inspired Duck Squad 40-37.
Critical penalties, defensive lapses, and special team blunders spelled doom for any hope of a Cyclone victory in this contest. WP-LH now falls to 4-3 on the season and 3-2 in the West Prairie Trails North Conference.
The Cyclones picked up 361 yards of total offense but gave up 389 total yards to the host Ducks. WP-LH got touchdowns from Joel DeCounter (3), Matt Woolam, and Daniel Patterson, but it was not enough in this see-saw affair.
Havana scoring with 56 seconds on the clock proved to be the difference.
Now the Cyclones are faced with the daunting task of trying to pick-up a play-off qualifying 5th win in one of its final two game.
The final two opponents, Rushville-Industry and Alwood-Rowva, have already clinched with 5-2 and 7-0 records, respectively.
This week, WP-LH will host Rushville-Industry at Sciota on Friday night. This game will be Senior Night for the Cyclones and will kick-off at 7:00 p.m.
