A And R Romp Over Heat

by Coach Will Bavery

The state ranked A and R Bulldogs showed their teeth last Friday with a 52-6 victory over the Heat. A and R featured a really strong defensive line which bottled up the Heat offense for most of the game. Their defense gave their potent offense a chance to score many points.

The Heat, while overmatched by the bigger school, did make progress in certain areas on defense. Our linebacker play was improved, and we had some individuals who turned in some good plays.

I was really pleased with the play of James Torrance in our secondary. James played really tough against an opponent intent on padding its statistics, and he never broke. Nice job James. On offense, although we were bottled up for most of the game, I was happy that our guys showed determination pounding the ball into the end zone to avoid the shutout.

Our scoring drive came on the hard running of Andy Chockley and John Livermore. John Livermore got the touchdown run from six yards out. The touchdown came behind the strong blocking of Jason Sams and Brent Blender in our jumbo set.

Brent Blender gave us some nice yardage in his first game at halfback. Adam Smith also showed he is a quality receiver by running some good routes. Andy Chockley continued the hard running that we have come to expect from him. On the line I was pleased that Josh Harkness gave an all out effort to stalemate A and R's best defensive guard.

This week the Heat will take on another bigger school in Elmwod-Brimfield. The Trojans will bring in a unique offense that most of our fans have not seen before. We will be asking our players to do some things that we normally do not do to counter what they will throw at us. There should be some interesting matchups in this ball game.
