Meet Your Neighbor

Meet Your Neighbor June (Stevenson) Galbraith. She works part time at Weir's during apple harvest, and is on-call at Today's Modern Options in Burlington, Iowa where she does custom sewing of head coverings and hair pieces for cancer patients.

She was born at her grandfather, Sam Stevenson's home, near Dankwardt Park, in Burlington, Iowa and raised in Henderson County.

June attended Crystal Lake School through eighth grade and graduated from Stronghurst High School in 1945.

On June 10, 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Bernard Galbraith. They were married for 57 years.

From that union came three sons, Steven, David and Tom. All three sons live within a 3 mile radius of her home. She says, "I love my children living close because then I am able to see my grandchildren and great-grandchildren often."

She is the grandmother of 5 boys and 3 girls and great-grandmother of 5 boys and 6 girls.

She has lived, in the same farmhouse, at rural Gladstone for 40 years

She enjoys being with her family and friends. Her hobbies include doing anything with thread or yarn, such as spinning, weaving, and embroidery, and crafting homemade baskets for special gifts. At one time she raised her own sheep for wool to spin. Her mother taught her to knit and crochet when she was only five years old, so she has many years of experience.

June also bowls on two leagues, and loves flying, mushroom hunting, picking wild raspberries, flower gardening, fishing, traveling and any outdoor activity.

She has been a faithful member of the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church since 1946 and plays chimes in the choir.
