The West Central Heat boys baseball team finally got the season underway on Saturday against a quality Rockridge team. Things didn't turn out quite like we had hoped as we dropped a pair to the hosts.
The Heat jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the 1st inning, but couldn't hold on and ended up falling 12-10 in the opener.
Score by innigs:
W.C. 4, 1, 0, 2, 0, 2, 1
R.R. 0, 1, 5, 1, 4, 1 X
Final Score 10-12
Game 1 leading hitters: Adam Smith 2-1, Adam Corzatt 2-3, Jerry Morris 1-2 (3 walks), Dan Crum 4-4 ( 6 R.B.I.'s).
The 2nd game of the double header, the Heat faced a pitcher that the opposing coach said threw the game of his life. He kept our hitters off balance and we just couldn't wake up the sticks. The boys kept hitting the ball hard, but always right to a fielder. We ended up with only 2 hits for the game., Darick Clark and Adam Corzatt each had singles in the game.
Score by innings:
W.C. 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0
R.R. 0, 0, 1, 1, 3, 2, X
Final score 1-7
The nice thing about this is it was the first two games of a long season. We saw some good things and things we need to improve on. After losing two games it may sound funny, but we hit the ball harder and more often than Rockridge throughout the 2 games. We just couldn't seem to find a gap, while they were relying on "Texas Leaguers" and "Seeing Eye Singles". We'll get things straightened away and this team will be something to watch.
