Heat Track Team On Fire At Silver Streak Invite

The West Central High School Boys Track and Field team traveled to Monmouth College on Friday, March 17, for the Silver Streak Indoor Invitational hosted by Galesburg High School. Although the Heat competed against eighteen of the largest schools in the state ranging from Quincy to the Quad Cities, they turned in several outstanding performances.

Darick Clark was not intimidated by the AA schools as he turned in a 6th place finish in the 55 meter dash in 6.88 seconds but tweaked a hamstring and had to withdraw from his other events. Stephen Lindo competed for the first time in the high jump and clearly out-competed many higher ranked jumpers to take 8th place and clear 5'6".

Layton Housman came out of a slower heat to finish in 9th place overall in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:09.8 Bill Blakely finished in 10th place in the Long Jump with a leap of 18'2 _". Others giving good efforts but not placing were Josh Harkness-SP-39'11"; the 4x800 relay team of Housman, Lindo, James Torrance, and Dan Koopmans-9:41.3; Charlie Smith 3200 meter run-11:57.3; and Cody Postle in the 55 M Hurdles 10.28.

Seth Carlson, Brad Buss, Erik Asplund, Jayson Sams, and Claudio Lauchli also turned in fine efforts in the meet!

The next meet for the Heat will be on Monday, March 20 at the Frostbite Invitational in Monmouth.
