Thank God For Freedom Of Speech

Dear Editor:

In case you have never noticed, I love writing. (Sorry about that) We retired types need such things to stimulate what is left of our minds.

Many believe that it is important to stand up for what you believe, no matter if the majority believe the opposite.

Some people think that George W. and Rumsfeld are doing this. They both consult some of the top experts in our country and the world before making critical decisions.

Although we could not possibly have much insight, we think we should be authorities on such things as terrorism.

Six retired generals think that Rumsfeld is off base in regard to fighting the war in Iraq, therefore; many Americans believe that it must be true.

Unfortunately, the news media doe not quote the thousands of loyal officers who believe in our cause and all the good that has been accomplished.

They realize we will never have a lasting peace until terrorism is under control.

We could do as Clinton tended to do and ignore terrorism and hope it will go away.

Some of us believe like Truman, as well as Bush and Rumsfeld; that the buck stops with them. Clinton followed what the majority wanted and was popular.

Truman and Bush didn't and this is a big factor in their unpopularity Although Clinton was good at delaying inevitable problems like terrorism and at passing on huge problems, including a recession, the current administration face problems.

After tax cuts, the economy is almost booming in many places, with the unemployment rate considerably lower.

The stock market keeps hitting six year highs (prior to the correction). Of course many choose to look at the negative side-the huge debt and other world problems.

Regardless of who the president is, if you are fighting a war and have large natural disasters, you will have large debts. The good news is that government revenues are picking up significantly. Despite all the gloom and doom, their is light at the end of the tunnel for Iraq and balancing our budget.

Thank God we do have freedom of speech. Unfortunately, the biggest talkers (and writers) are the ones that get heard and the silent majority keeps opinions to themselves.

This is probably because they think before they speak. Thomas Jefferson, said, "Where the press is free and every man able to read, all is safe".

F-A-T-H-E-R-S D-A-Y Salute

By Elaine Slater Reese

F orever you will be their father. A part of you is a part of them. Perhaps they have your eyes, your voice, your sense of humor, your love of animals or music.

A lways they are watching you, wanting to be like you.

T ake the time to teach them, to listen, to enjoy precious life with them.

H eritage - They will be the father of your grandchildren. They will pass on to them what they have learned from you.

E very day, every hour with them is a gift from God. Don't waste a single moment.

R emember you have been given the honor of introducing them to Jesus.

S omeday you will be gone, and they will have memories. You are creating those now.

D on't let a day go by without saying "I love you" and giving a hug.

A nswer their questions. Use the Bible for your source of wisdom.

Y ou are their hero. their example. Be the man God wants you to be, and your children will be blessed.

Some men are wonderful fathers because they grew up with a great example.

Some men are wonderful fathers because, at some point, they made a choice not to be like the example they had.

Think about the legacy you will leave for your children.
