Peters Greenhouse In Lomax Keeps Busy

Peters Greenhouse is located in Lomax, and is owned and operated by Mike and Kim (Todd) Peters.

The couple have had their expanding business open now for four years, but the greenhouse business has been in Mike's family for over 125 years.

Mike's great grandfather started the business by pulling a wagon though town and selling vegetables to the locals.

His grandfather took over and sold tomatoes to the Lomax Canning Factory that used to be running in Lomax.

There are also other family members that have opened greenhouses stretching as far south as Hannilbal and as far north as Mike and Kim's branch location in West Burlington, Iowa.

Last year the Peters expanded and now have a total of six greenhouses full of vegetables, budding plants, trees & shrubs, and many flowers.

They also sell planters for special occasions, baskets, and yard decorations.

They have six part time employees aside from all the family help. They start planting in December in order to be ready for their open house which they always have the third week in April.

After the open house, the couple keep the greenhouse open 7 days a week from 7 to 7 p.m. until sometime in June.

They pride themselves on good customer service, clean greenhouses, and offering a good variety. The greenhouse can be reached by calling 217-449-3769.

Mike and Kim also have two active boys Zachary (13) and Lucas (7).

When Kim is not working at the greenhouse she is employed at Stage Two in Ft. Madison, IA.

Mike works at the Iowa Army Ammunition plant in Middletown, Iowa during the day and helps out at the greenhouse in the evenings.

When they are not busy at work they enjoy spending time with family and attending all of the boys ball games, band concerts, and scholastic bowl meets.
